A brief summary of Vinote Tags.

Each Vinote tag is sequentially numbered with a 7 digit number; they are shipped in packets of 250.  The last 3 digits are printed in larger font and it is these three digits which are used to locate a bottle in the cellar.  Every tag carries a barcoded replica of the 7 digit number.

Your cellar will never have two bottles with the same number and will only have a duplicate of the last 3 digits after you have used 1000 tags; even then the chance of carrying two duplicate tag numbers is very remote.

The unique tag number ensures an easy method of locating a wine and ensures an accurate inventory.  Bottle barcodes alone are not suitable for either of these processes; they are recorded in the Vinote database as a quick reference to similar wines.

You can use the pre-numbered tags again, but a. there is an extra keying-in-burden as you are obliged to enter each tag number (the Vinote program always assumes that the next tag being used is the next sequential tag coming from the packet); b. the tags lose a bit of there adhesive qualities when reused; c. the cost of throwing away a used tag is considerably less than the cost of any other single component of your used bottle, such as bottle, label, closure.  It is for these reasons we do not promote re-use of the tags.
